Super XL – Magnetic Drilling Machine
Project Introduction:
Portable Magnetic Drilling Machines (MDMs) are used for creating holes in steel plates, angles, and channels. These machines utilise hollow annular cutters, which can be damaged by vibrations. Due to their portability, MDMs must be lifted and moved after each hole is drilled, and the slanted angle handles can place undue stress on the operator’s wrist. MDMs are often used to drill through multiple stacked plates to ensure that holes align across all plates, which requires longer cutters and a longer stroke. The internal coolant flow system is essential, but small coolant bottles must be refilled frequently, after every 2 or 3 holes. Additionally, hanging power cords can pose safety risks, as they might be used to lift the machine or become entangled, potentially causing electric shock. To address these issues, Broachcutter has designed the SUPER XL, a vibration-free MDM featuring an ergonomic straight handle, a long stroke, a large coolant bottle, and internal wiring.
