Chennai Metro Phase 2
Project Introduction:
Production of trains for CMRL Phase 2 began in February 2024, with 108 advanced metro coaches being manufactured at Alstom’s facility in Sricity. These state-of-the-art green vehicles are designed for a safe speed of 90 km/h and an operational speed of 80 km/h. The exterior front mask of the trains, inspired by the graceful mudras of the Indian classical dance form Bharatnatyam, reflects a unique and culturally rich design. The aerodynamic modular design of the new metro will provide enhanced safety, security, and environmental benefits, along with an improved passenger experience.
