INDIA’S BEST DESIGN PROJECT 2020

Project Introduction:
This overcoat is a contemporary adaptation of the thick woolen coats – the traditional attire of the nomadic shepherd tribes of the Jaunsar-Bawar valley of Uttarakhand. This garment is a celebration of various skills practiced by the women artisans of our organization of Almora (a town located at the southern edge of the Kumaon Hills of the Himalayan range in Uttarakhand). Hand-woven Harsil fabric, an indigenous variety of wool from Uttarakhand has been lined with cotton and hand embroidered into the coat. The panels are all joined using hand sewing techniques. The sleeves made from hand spun merino wool are a rich combination of various hues of Indigo, hand-knit using the Fair-isle patterning, forming the main highlight of the overcoat.
