INDIA’S BEST DESIGN PROJECT 2020
Project Introduction:
Loss of a limb can be devastating and unlike losing a leg the functional limitations following hand loss are catastrophic. Trans-radial amputation is the partial amputation of the arm below the elbow. There are approximately 3M upper limb amputees around the world.
To perform the Activities of Daily Living(ADL), a prosthesis must support essential gestures. Advanced bionic prostheses are still beyond the reach of the needy person due to the very high price. And there is hardly any practical solution available in the developing countries market. With our proposed solution, we want to target the bottom of the pyramid population who have a below-elbow amputation.
The product is a battery-powered multi-grasp hand which can be controlled through your muscle signals [EMG signals] with the following features:
Essential gestures support
– Intuitive control
– Lightweight and Modular design
– Cosmetically appealing design
– Easy for maintenance and service
– Cost-efficient
The myo-electric hand is powered by an indigenous pattern recognition system that helps the user to toggle between the gestures while performing any task. The contours of the prosthetic hand are derived out of careful measurement and analysis of the human hand in order to facilitate a firm grip while holding the objects. A cosmetic glove can be worn over the product in order to customize the color with the skin tone of the user.
The product aims to improve the quality of life of amputees and reduce the dependency of performing activities of daily living.
