Project introduction:

The Bapta Revival Project – 2022 symbolizes local communities and practices, craft revival, and cultural sustainability. It is a collection of contemporary handwoven Patta Bapta sarees, a unique combination of cotton and mulberry silk yarns using the three-shuttle weaving technique with traditional temple borders (Phoda Kumbha), an evolved version of Rui Maach (fish motif) on the body and elaborate Sambalpuri Ikat (yarn tied and dyed) aanchal with multiple motifs, woven by the Kosta Bhulia groups of the Meher communities in Western Odisha.
