Rattler – Petrol Engine Driven – Light Weight Rail Drilling Machine (LWRDM)
Project Introduction:
Rail Drilling Machines (RDM) are primarily used for drilling holes in rail tracks on-site. When working on live tracks or at accident sites, the process of clamping the machine, drilling the required hole size, and de-clamping should be completed in under a minute. Lightweight Rail Drilling Machines (LWRDMs) use hollow annular cutters, which require less power as they only cut a 2 to 3 mm width at the hole’s periphery. These machines are expected to replace the heavier trolley-mounted rail drilling machines. As the name suggests, LWRDMs are designed to be lightweight and are capable of drilling smaller diameters using solid drills, along with performing additional operations like chamfering. Broachcutter has successfully met these expectations by designing and manufacturing RATTLER, a Light Weight Rail Drilling Machine (LWRDM).
