INDIA’S BEST DESIGN PROJECT 2020
Project Introduction:
Hindustan Unilever Limited partnered with Red Baton to redesign their wholesale-retail experience vis-a-vis a series of connected apps. Ushop points is the central application of the system and U-shop is a loyalty program for end customers. The app also
includes features to educate tier-II and tier-III audiences about HUL’s products and ongoing offers.
Ushop is intended to help the customers get loyalty benefits on making a purchase and to help small format retail stores compete with the larger supermarkets by enabling their discovery on the app and giving discounts on purchases made at their stores. The entire application system had to be thought through from the end-users point of view. Which primarily were tier-II and tier-III customers and small retail shop owners or “Kirana store“ owners. We had to make it the most convenient option for them otherwise
the product will never get accepted.
Ushop app gives customers access to the entire inventory of HUL and other products (non-HUL and loose items like daal and rice) and also informs them about the discounts they can get on HUL products. The app then navigates the user to the nearest applicable store where the billing happens on a connected POS device or retailer app that we designed. We also added value add features to Ushop such as – Monthly wish-list (mahine kaa ration), Google map integration, Gamification for engagement and user education and a scan-and-go feature for self-checkout at larger stores. All of this was done as a result of a multi-city on-ground survey and then implemented in the new application.
