Project Introduction:
GREYTONE reflects bold minimalism and simplicity. Since its inception in 2015, we design distinctive modern jewellery inspired by art, design and primarily architecture which is Handcrafted in uncommon material concrete. Concrete is usually perceived as a robust material because of its use only in construction, here it has been used to make jewellery. Being an interior designer enables me to work a lot with architectural materials and gives me lot of scope to experiment and see things from a different perspective. My first stint in this direction was making lifestyle products. My ever-growing love for concrete and abusing its fluid nature got me to create jewellery. Here we try to redefine the idea of fashion accessories from traditional materials to one created from unconventional sources.
These can easily be categorised as “wearable art “.
Our earlier collections very clearly show the influence of Bauhaus or artdeco styles. Apart from taking inspiration from above mentioned design eras Use of materials like wood, glass and leather always had a different impact on the overall design of the pieces.
For the new collection, we wanted to explore more and push ourselves to represent
” Architecture meets fashion” in a true sense. To establish this relationship, we used two strong materials common to different genres with very distinctive use. We merged Zari – a material which dates back from centuries which is used on luxurious fabric for embroideries and on the other front we used concrete, an uncommon material used only in construction.
We call this project confluence. As the name suggests this collection showcases two very different materials when thoughtfully put together they do on their own. Together they both complement each other creating a bit of awe, redefining perceptions of jewellery.
The pieces designed are sculptural, modern and very detailed. Colour palette decided for this collection is very neutral with natural cement colour grey and white, with striking detailing of gold and silver of zari .
All pieces are designed and handcrafted in our studio .
