INDIA’S BEST DESIGN PROJECT 2020
Project Introduction:
Anuvad’ is the word for ‘Translation’ in Hindi. This project looks at creating a symbiotic relationship between Traditional Indian crafts and E-textile technology. Through an ethical design and technology intervention, this project aims at allowing the traditional crafts to evolve and grow in the ‘digital era’. ‘Anuvad’ is a result of a collaboration between the craftsmen, a technical expert and the author of this project, who is the main conceptualiser, facilitator, designer and the design researcher of this project. The primary objective of this project was to design, develop and prototype products that are already a part of the repertoire of traditional craft practices while amplifying their functionality through seamlessly embedding E-textile technology in them. Through this, I was able to create products that are sustainable not only environmentally but also ensure economic sustainability to craft practices by broadening their market scope. As a result of this, 3 product ranges were created namely, Heated cushions and Heated rugs using an innovative woven circuit (Patent pending) that provide heat in places where conventional heating solutions are scarce, as well as stoles with LEDs embedded in the weave structure that provide security in dark places by making the wearer more visible.
